Child Support Modification

As of January 1, 2007, Minnesota now uses the "income-shares" model for Child Support calculation. Child Support Orders may be eligible for modification based upon the application of this new law, causing either a decrease or increase in support.

The new model of Child Support calculation takes into account the gross incomes of both parents, and other factors such as the amount parenting (visitation) time that each party has (for example, parents who spend between 10% and 45% of the time with the children are eligble for a 12% reduction in child support), and expenditures for insurance.
